Tannis Hopkins

Studio 108

Tannis is an expressive, figurative painter who works in oil and acrylic and loves drawing as well. She studied Fine Art at college and university in Montreal and Toronto and worked as an art director/graphic designer for years. Coming from a food-centric family, cooking and exploring different world cuisines is another creative outlet for her and it is only natural then that Tannis paint food culture as well. She is also exploring depictions of familiar yet curious narratives. These works evoke a range of emotions from curiosity and a sense of the surreal, to introspection and sadness, to whimsy and a childlike sense of wonder. She likes to think these paintings create the beginnings of a story in the viewer’s mind. Through her work she hopes to find kindred spirits, and to celebrate heartfelt, sensory and meaningful parts of life.
